After suffering an ankle injury in March during the WSL season, Katrina Gorry has recovered and is in full preparation for the Paris Olympics.

Her return to the national team means that she gets to link-up alongside Kyra Cooney-Cross in midfield, and Gorry said she is “really excited” to play alongside the 22-year-old again.

“Kyra and I speak often. Obviously, I watched all the games when I wasn’t apart of it and we get to dissect little things throughout it and help each other along the way,” Gorry said.

“It feels like I never really left, so it’s been nice to be back out on the training pitch with her, just discussing things, what we can work on, how we can be better.

“We have an amazing connection so hopefully you get to see that in the next couple of weeks.”

Gorry described her ankle injury and the recovery journey as a “whirlwind couple of months”, but is now ready to throw herself into the Matildas Olympics campaign.

“Obviously, [I was] pretty devastated about my injury, but I’m so grateful for all the support and I knew that I could trust my body to get me back.

“I get to do it with my beautiful family as well. I’m feeling good, my ankle is doing really well, and I’m just so happy to be back in camp.”

Gorry said that she had been in full training for the past couple of weeks and had been doing fitness sessions by herself in order to get her fitness back up.

With the Olympics looming ever closer, it represents a massive chance for the Australians to win a medal after coming close against the USA at the Tokyo Olympic Games, losing in the bronze medal match 4-3.

The 31-year-old said that the Matildas squad are not letting their minds think about the idea of medalling, opting to take it one game at a time.

“[The] Olympic Games is a pretty intense tournament, game after game, really good opponents throughout the whole tournament.

“We’re just looking at the first game [and] making sure we’re ready to go for that game and we’ll take whatever happens after that.”
