The Global Game no longer has a platform on radio after a decision was confirmed to pull the program off the airwaves.
The football talk show, which focused on an Australian football lens, was hosted by renowned commentator Simon Hill and former Sydney FC and Socceroos striker Alex Brosque on the Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) from its Sydney studios.
Taking to social media to confirm the devastating news, Hill referenced a sponsorship roadblock that put the nail in the coffin.
“Some news for those who have asked… sadly, The Global Game won’t be returning to the airwaves, at least for now. I believe the show has been unable to secure sponsors,” Hill wrote on X.
“This is where [football] is in Australia, unfortunately.
“Thanks to all who listened and all our contributors.”

This is where ⚽️ is in Australia, unfortunately.
Thanks to all who listened & all our contributors 👍
The Global Game’s final show aired on November 26 last year before going on their summer break as SEN organised its slate of summer programming.
It raises further alarm bells as to how much support is being offered to football media in Australia, with the sport desperately eager to promote the game through mainstream media.
The latest setback offers a bleak picture regarding the lengths that Australian football has to fight through regularly.
The axing of the popular radio program now leaves Channel 10 – host broadcaster of the A-Leagues – and the league’s own media team as the only major publishers of regular A-Leagues programs, outside of independent content creators.
